Welcome to the website of Three Lochs Book and Arts Festival – a small but perfectly formed celebration of arts and literature, held every two years on the picturesque West coast of the Highlands of Scotland, at The Sunart Centre in Strontian.

With just a few days until our 2018 Festival, most of which takes place on Saturday 22nd September, we hope that you will be visiting this site to find out more about what we have in store.

There are drama workshops with one of the actors from Outlander (Scott Kyle) for ages 10–14 and 14–16 – places are very limited so need to be booked. We have a guitar masterclass (all guitar-playing ages welcome) with master musician and ‘dropped D’ celtic guitar expert Tim Edey, and a song-writing workshop with Louise Jordan. Louise will be launching the Festival this year, with a performance of her No Petticoats Here musical show, at The Highland Bookshop in Fort William (Thursday 20th September), a highly-entertaining celebration of the incredibly diverse and important role of women during World War One.

On Saturday, we have a family film (Early Man) in the morning, drop-in art workshop throughout the day, and a fun session with kids-book author and illustrator Ross Collins. If you are interested in nature, wildlife and the environment, we have a wildlife film-maker (late addition, Jim Manthorpe), writer and wild-life rehabilitator Polly Pullar, expert landscape photographer (and author of fotoVue book Photographing Scotland) Dougie Cunningham, and household name and everyone’s favourite nature writer Jim Crumley (feature writer for The Scots Magazine).

For those with a literary bent, or hoping to become published themselves, we have several top-class workshops to help you perfect your art. John D Burns will talk about how to self-publish, Anne M Scriven will focus on narrative non-fiction and both (award-winning) Ajay Close and Janis Mackay will help you develop your writing style and work on getting it more print-ready.

We have low-cost catering available throughout the day, a pop-up bookshop courtesy of The Highland Bookshop, and talks and an exhibition about WW1, in particular, the stories and lasting impact of WW1 on our part of Scotland. There really is entertainment for all ages and all interests throughout the day. Our musical finale with Jed Grimes and Tim Edey on Saturday evening is not to be missed – Tim Edey always sells out when he visits the area; his style of contemporary folk and mastery of guitar and other instruments make him a joy and pleasure to see and hear.

Have a look through the details on the site, check out more messages on our Facebook page – or just come along and find out for yourself!

Whether you are a regular attendee or this will be your first time at Three Lochs, we look forward to welcoming you.

Three Lochs Book and Arts Festival is a registered charity, regulated by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).
